Accident Administration Fee
As the responsibility amount on the waivers only contributes towards the repair costs of the vehicle, an administration fee of ZAR 470.00 per accident will be levied to cover the costs of processing the claim. This includes items such as assessor fees, quote gathering and legal services.
Additional Driver
Additional driver charge ZAR 180.00 per person, per rental
Age
Renters must be in possession of a valid unendorsed driver’s licence. The minimum age is 21 years and driver's licence must have been valid for a minimum of 1 year. It is a legal requirement in RSA to be in possesion of your drivers licence at all times whilst driving a vehicle.
There is no maximum age, however, super PAI is not available to persons over the age of 75 years.
International Visitors
International visitors are required to produce their passports when collecting their vehicle.
Cross Border Rental
No cross border rentals are allowed from South Africa to Malawi, Angola or Zambia, even if returning to South Africa. Please Note: Cross border rentals into Zimbabwe and Mozambique have been temporarily suspended. Renters wishing to enter Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho or Namibia must be in possesion of a letter of authority obtainable from an Avis location at time of rental, an additional R1003.00 (incl tax) will be charged to cross border rentals into Namibia and Botswana.
Delivery/Collection fees
Delivery/collection charge within 25 km from the Avis rental office, ZAR 200.00 Mon - Fri 08h00 - 17h00
After hours, weekends and public holidays ZAR 400.00 (On a request basis)
Deliveries and collections further than 25 km from the Avis rental office, an additional charge of ZAR 7.98 per km will apply.
Sun City deliveries/collections: a fee of ZAR 60.00 will apply for delivery/collection to the Palace, Cascades, Cabanas and time share resort.
Above fees include VAT.
Drivers License
Renters and additional drivers must be in possession of a valid unendorsed driver's license of country of residence. If driver's license is non-roman alphabet, an international driver's license is required. Please note that Foreigners must also produce a valid passport. Rule of the road - drive on the left hand side.
Method of Payment
Avis accept Avis honoured credit/charge cards, American Express, Diners, Mastercard and Visa. Please note: The credit card being used needs to be in the name of the renter. Avis South Africa DO NOT accept Debit cards/Cheque cards, all numbers must be raised on card.
One Way Within Country
One way rentals between Avis cities within South Africa are available.
One way rentals from Eastern Cape, George, Knysna to Cape Town are subject to a one way fee of ZAR 515.00
One way rentals from Cape Town to Knysna, George, Eastern Cape are subject to a one way fee of ZAR 515.00
One way rentals from Johannesburg to Cape Town, Durban, Mpumalanga are subject to a fee of ZAR 775.00
One way rentals from Durban, Cape Town, Mpumalanga to Johannesburg are subject to a fee of ZAR 430.00
One way rentals from Johannesburg to/from Sun City are subject to a fee of ZAR 155.00
One way rentals from Johannesburg to/from Rustenburg are subject to a fee of ZAR 155.00
One way rentals from Durban to/from Richards Bay are subject to a fee of ZAR 155.00
One way rentals between Richards Bay and St Lucia and visa versa are subject to a fee of ZAR 68.40
One way rentals between Port Elizabeth and Port Alfred and visa versa are subject to a fee of ZAR 68.40
One way rentals between East London and Port Alfred and visa versa are subject to a fee of ZAR 68.40
All other one way rentals between districts are subject to a one way fee of ZAR 515.00.
One way rentals are available between any city in South Africa and will be subject to a one way fee.
Renters wishing to enter Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho or Namibia must be in possession of a letter of authority obtainable from the Avis rental office when collecting the vehicle.
Outside Country
One way rentals are allowed outside South Africa to the following countries:
Botswana - ZAR 1490.00
Swaziland - ZAR 775.00
Lesotho - ZAR 775.00
Namibia - ZAR 3500.00
Above fees include VAT.
Personal Accident Insurance
The renter who accepts Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) as well as all other passengers in the vehicle will be covered for accidental bodily injury while driving, riding in, getting into or out of the Avis vehicle. Coverage is in effect up to "return date" indicated on the rental agreement or any Avis approved extension. The insurance will apply to persons up to the age of 75 years. The death benefit in respect of persons under 15 years of age shall be limited to R10 000. The benefit will be divided equally among all occupants of the insured vehicle.
NOTICE: The insured shall give immediate written or telegraphic notice to Avis of any claim and in any event within 90 days of injury. Avis acts as an agent for Accident and Miscellaneous Acceptances, who is the underwriter of the PAI Policy. Petrol
Petrol is not included in our rates. Cars are delivered full and the customer is charged for full refill upon termination of rental. Fuel consumption is gauged from customer service centre to customer service centre.

Special Equipment
Baby seat (1-5 YRS) - Automatic confirmation with 24 hours advance reservation. ZAR 230.00 per rental. Available in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Port Elizabeth.
Paraplegic Hand Controls - On Request with 72 hours advance reservation. No charge. Available on Group E- Honda Accord or similiar. Available in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.

Car Rental Rates include
- Comprehensive insurance from AVIS without excess in the event of damage
- Insurance of the tyres, glass (e.g. windscreen panel) and undercarriage damages
- Insurance of damage owing to water or sand to an unlimited amount through AVIS
- Occupants’ accident cover
- Fee for an additional driver
- General processing fee for accident, damage or theft.unlimited kilometres
- Surcharge for drivers under the age of 21 is included
- Tax & fees
- ZAR 470 for accident, damage, theft or similar
- Liability insurance included with cover up ZAR 200.000.000
- All-Inclusive Covers occupants' injuries up to the age of 75; cover up to ZAR 250,000.
- Children up to the age of 15 are insured to the sum of ZAR 10,000
- Lability in the case of death or disability up to ZAR 200,000 per person
Car Rental Rates do not include:
- Fuel
- stamp duty in Namibia
- towing costs
- deposit which is ZAR 1400,00 (payable with creditcard)
- ZAR 1003 fee for border crossing into Botswana and Namibia
- Additional fees for border crossings into Namibia, payable at the border.
No insurance cover in general, when:
- If rental terms and conditions are not observed.
- Driving of the vehicle by an unregistered driver
- Driving without a driver’s licence
- Driving under the age of 18.
- Deliberate or grossly negligent action: driving under the influence of alcohol, excessive speed...
- If the accident/damage is not reported within 24 hours and the police and rental station notified.
- if the vehicle is driven out of South Africa without written permission.
- If damage has been caused by driving on unsecured roads.
- If personal belongings are damaged because of an accident, are stolen from the car or go missing.
