NEWS » Movement on Permanent Residence Applications
In September, the Minister of Home Affairs, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, gave the directive for the much-reported permanent residence backlog to be cleared by the end of November.
Since then, numerous Home Affairs officials have sacrificed their evenings and weekends and thousands of applications have been finalized nationwide (1158 in the Western Cape alone, which is more than 50% of all complete and pending applications received there until 20 September 2006). Results have been coming forth, but applications in the business category with investments lower than R 2,5 mil and in the worker category remain to be problematic.

Imcosa has significantly contributed to pressure applied on Home Affairs to resolve these cases.
