The Minister of Home Affairs, Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, has published an updated critical skills list and relevant quotas on 25 April 2007. Amongst the new categories that were introduced are call or contact centre managers, economist, statisticians, electricians and various technicians and draftspersons in the building and engineering, manufacturing and process, fabrications engineering and mechanical engineering trades. Notably, all categories in the IT industry (ICT security specialists, software developers, software engineers) have been removed! Also, the quotas were substantially reduced overall.
