Most insurance companies apply the following guidelines:

Your vehicle, if new, is insured for replacement during the first year. Thereafter the retail value is applied. These values can be obtained from the Auto Dealer’s Guide booklet if the car is not imported or older than 9 years. 

We can give you an indication only if you supply us with as much information on the vehicle as possible. This includes the amount of mileage and accessories.

We recommend that you obtain a written valuation especially if the car is imported or older than 9 years.
The principal of underinsurance is also applied with motor vehicles.
