Short description of internship:

This company formulates new food products and unique food ingredients, finds new applications for food ingredients, provides specialised short-courses to the industry (general or in-house), provides hands-on training to all levels of staff in the meat, fish and poultry industries Training projects have included workshops in product formulation, meat manufacturing techniques, basic sensory evaluation and related disciplines. Quality inspection and arbitration projects are also undertaken. They are involved in collaborative ventures with the University of Stellenbosch, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and several commercial firms.

Internship tasks:

  • Product development projects
  • Formulating recipes for companies for use with food manufacturing equipment
  • Assisting in pilot production trials and putting together an instruction manual for the manufacturing system, including how to use the machinery and recipes.
  • Accompanying the director on visits to companies and working on the textural component of the recipes, and on shelf stability.

Applicant requirements:

  • Studying towards a degree or a related degree in Food Technology
  • Laboratory experience
  • Good analytical skills
  • A strong interest in research and development and a desire to contribute to the success of new food products.
